futbol, y mas

today is a world cup qualifier between ecuador and brazil.  BIG deal.  we have to win this one  and the one against argentina later this week to qualify.  it´s in quito and one of brazil´s best is out injured so we apparently have a chance.  our guard omar tells me that on days like today in quito the sun is tan fuerte and cuts the skin like knives, and the ground is hard and hot, so the brazilian players can´t handle it.  their hearts work too hard, apparently, so then they´re overworked and lose the game.  woooo!  sounds optimistic.

so we volunteers are getting started planning for next year.  rostro actually has spots for up to five!  one person will be working in boston for Rostro de Cristo next year in a rotating position working with retreat groups and stuff up there.  3-4 other people will be staying in Ecuador for another year.  Rostro is opening a third house over in Guayaquil and they want to staff it with second year volunteers.  Four people have applied for those spots so we´ll see who ends up staying.  It looks like Elyse will be in Boston and Danny, Amy, Caroline, and Tracy all applied to stay here.  Lauren and Gina are applying for teaching jobs.  Andrew´s applying to grad school (some post bachelors pre med programs).  so Colie, Melissa, and I are looking for jobs of some kind.  At this point it looks like I´ll be moving to chicago, that´s where I´d really like to be, so if you know of a job I might be interested in or a cheap place to live there, let me know.  I´m still looking.  but that´s where we are at the moment for next year.

we´re still busy with retreat groups.  I have one free weekend from now until July 18, what with retreat groups, retreats, and my family coming to visit.  I still like it though.  every group comes down here one way and leaves a totally different way.  we´re plugging along.  I think I´m getting better at running the program.  we just had a group from seattle university, which was fun.  they were a good group, though they didn´t all understand what they were doing here, it´s rare to find a group where everyone gets it.

game´s starting, I should go.

I know, I´ve been gone for a while, but lately it seems that I only have cyber time once a week. which sucks. my lenten thing is to stay in better contact with people, but so far that hasn´t been working. I love you! I miss you! I wish I knew what was going on in your life and I hope to see you soon!
